Råstoff is a local creative organization and community of artists, photographers, designers and passionate creatives who aim to strengthen and enrich the cultural and artistic life of the region.
Working across visual arts and creative practices, Råstoff is committed to creating open, inclusive and low-threshold spaces where people of all ages can explore creativity, collaboration and expression. Our focus lies not only in finished results, but in process, dialogue and shared experience.
At its core, Råstoff is about people — and about creating arenas where ideas, skills and perspectives can meet and grow.
Råstoff’s mission is to strengthen and enrich the cultural and artistic life of the region by creating open, inclusive and accessible spaces for creative expression.
We aim to support artists, creatives and young people in developing ideas, skills and projects across disciplines, generations and backgrounds. Through collaboration, dialogue and hands-on practice, we work to make art and creativity more visible, approachable and meaningful within the community.
Råstoff values process as much as outcome, and believes that creative growth happens when people are given space, trust and encouragement.
Råstoff envisions a vibrant and connected creative environment where artists and creative thinkers feel supported, inspired and empowered to explore their potential.
We see a future where creativity is accessible to all ages, where different artistic expressions coexist, and where collaboration replaces isolation. Through long-term engagement and cross-border networks, Råstoff aims to be a driving force for cultural development in the region and beyond.
Råstoff was founded by Maria and Raymond Berg, a married couple deeply involved in the voluntary arts and culture scene in Senja.
Maria is a trained 3D designer with a strong passion for writing and storytelling. Raymond is a photographer with more than 20 years of experience, known for his tireless creative drive and his ability to turn ideas into concrete projects. Over the years, he has co-founded Senja Fotoklubb, initiated the art festival Nordnorsk Kunstkaskade, contributed actively to Senja Kunstforening, and supported countless artists and photographers in developing and realizing their work.
Through years of engagement, we experienced how few accessible arenas exist for artists and creative thinkers — especially spaces that connect generations and disciplines. This lack of meeting points often makes it difficult to find both community and the right collaborators when developing new projects.
The idea of forming an artist collective grew during the development of the project Borderless / Limitless, when the need for a shared platform became clear. A space for people with genuine drive, initiative and deep passion for art and communication.
When the idea was presented to a selected group of creatives, the response was immediate. The vision resonated — and Råstoff was born.
Together, Råstoff holds the knowledge, drive, and resources to take on a wide range of creative projects. We see a strong need for more accessible spaces and inspiration for children and young people who want to explore creative expressions such as photography, street art, illustration, and design. Råstoff aims to be an active presence – supporting and facilitating both small and big dreams within art and culture.
Råstoff continues to grow and has established networks across Northern Sweden and Finland. We warmly welcome new artists, creative minds, and passionate individuals. If you are unsure whether Råstoff is the right place for you, have a project you would like to develop and feel could belong with us, or if you are simply curious – you are always welcome to get in touch.
Råstoff consists of individuals with distinct expressions, skills and backgrounds. What unites us is curiosity, generosity and a shared belief in collaboration as a creative force.
